About

Nick joined Harmans in November 2024, having returned home to Christchurch after gaining valuable experience at another law firm in Central Otago in the Private Client practice area.

He graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Arts (History and Classical Studies) in 2017, and a Bachelor of Laws in 2023, before being admitted to the bar in December 2023.

A former auto electrician, his passion for problem solving has carried through to his legal career and he enjoys working on complex disputes. Nick is skilled in litigation, dispute resolution, and employment law. He has appeared in the District Court, Family Court, and High Court.

Outside of work you can find him spending time with his dog Terra, fixing cars, skiing, tramping, watching combat sport, and at the gym.

Some of Nick’s recent experience includes:

  • Acting for parties involved in property ownership disputes.
  • Acting for parties involved in estate disputes, including cases where following orders under the Administration Act 1969 were required to trace distributions already made by the estate.
  • Acting for creditors and debtors in debt recovery actions.
  • Acting for parties in applications under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988.
  • Acting for tradesmen in claims alleging negligence.
  • Acting for debtors in bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Acting for clients in applications for limited licences following convictions for excess breath alcohol (i.e. DUI), or following suspensions for excess demerit points.
  • Acting for employers and employees in employment relationship disputes, including defective redundancy processes, and a complex dispute involving a medically incapacitated employee who was found guilty of serious misconduct.
  • Acting as junior counsel in a complex matter involving an alleged conspiracy to take and use an employer’s confidential information to set up a competing business, causing losses in the tens of millions.
  • Acting as junior counsel in a complex High Court case involving allegations of fraud by breach of first mortgagee duties; dishonest assistance in breach of first mortgagee duties; fraudulent concealment of breach of first mortgagee duties; and Land Transfer Act fraud.
